Harddome precision without compromises

The frequency response of the 26HD3 shows what the combination of magnesium stiffness and ceramic damping sounds like in practice: a linear, controlled amplitude curve with 92 dB efficiency, which delivers the typical strengths of a hard dome driver – precision, detail resolution, fast transients – without the typical weaknesses of undamped metal domes. There are no sharp resonance peaks, no overemphasized treble, and no listener fatigue during long listening sessions.

The usable frequency range starts at a practical 2 kHz – with a suitably steep filter – and extends far into the ultrasonic range. The wide radiation pattern of the 25mm dome ensures uniform energy distribution throughout the room and stable, precise stage imaging even off the main listening axis. This is a decisive advantage for DIY developers who have excellent 3D sound reproduction as their project goal.

The smooth response curve with no dips or peaks across its operating range is the direct result of the double-sided ceramic coating – a manufacturing process developed and perfected by ETON at its German production plant. A hard dome driver that sounds exactly as it measures.

Ceramic damping makes all the difference

The impedance curve of the 26HD3 displays the behavior of a hard dome driver with an effectively damped magnesium ceramic dome. The impedance maximum lies at the resonant frequency of approximately 810 Hz. Despite this higher resonant frequency compared to soft dome drivers, ETON recommends a crossover frequency starting at 2 kHz – proof that the double-sided ceramic coating damps the dome so effectively that the driver operates controllably even with tighter coupling. For non-critical use without special requirements for crossover design, a crossover frequency starting at 3.5 kHz is recommended.

Above the resonant frequency, the driver behaves almost purely resistively thanks to its extremely low voice coil inductance (Le = 0.02 mH) – the impedance rise at high frequencies is minimal. This means crossover designers have a forgiving, predictable load: simpler crossover design, lower phase errors, and more flexibility in component selection.

The cleanly defined impedance maximum, with no secondary resonances or dips in the passband, confirms the mechanical precision of the drive system and the quality of the dome coating. This is a hard dome driver that behaves identically in simulation and real-world use – reproducible, no surprises, Made in Germany.
