Linear treble starting at 2.5 kHz

The frequency response of the 28SD1 bears the hallmark of an experienced loudspeaker manufacturer: In the core operating range of approximately 2 kHz to 15 kHz, the amplitude runs remarkably evenly – the foundation for the neutral, color-free high-frequency reproduction that ETON drivers are known for. With a 91 dB efficiency rating, the 28SD1 delivers confident dynamic reserves for level-stable DIY projects.

Particularly relevant for loudspeaker DIY builds: The smooth amplitude response at the lower end of the transmission range allows coupling starting at approximately 2.5 kHz – even with 2nd-order filters. This gives you plenty of flexibility when choosing the midrange driver and keeps the crossover manageable.

The uniform off-axis radiation pattern ensures consistent energy output in the room and a stable stage image even off the main listening axis. The complete absence of resonance-induced peaks in the upper transmission range is a direct result of the hand-coated fabric dome – applied individually to each driver in our factory, for a sound profile that sounds exactly as it measures.

Gentle load, simple switch design

The impedance curve of the 28SD1 shows the typical behavior of a carefully engineered soft-dome tweeter. The impedance peak occurs at the resonant frequency of approximately 510 Hz – well below standard practical crossover frequencies – creating a comfortable safety margin for crossover design.

Above resonance, the driver behaves almost purely resistively across a wide frequency range: The voice coil inductance is very low at Le = 0.02 mH, which minimizes the impedance rise at high frequencies. For the crossover designer, this means a forgiving, predictable load – simpler filter design, lower phase errors, and more flexibility in component selection.

The smooth, resonance-free frequency response curve with no dips or peaks in the operating range confirms the carefully optimized acoustic damping of the rear volume as well as tight manufacturing tolerances in the magnetic assembly. The result is a tweeter that performs in practice exactly as simulations promise – reliable, reproducible, and free of unexpected behavior.
