Analytical treble with a wide range of applications

The frequency response of the 29HD2 shows what a large-format hard dome driver with a ceramic coating can accomplish: a linear, controlled amplitude curve with 91 dB efficiency that is usable starting at 2 kHz — a range that smaller hard dome drivers without ceramic damping cannot reliably cover. The low resonant frequency of 590 Hz gives the frequency response more leeway at the lower end and enables crossover frequencies that are exceptionally low for a hard dome driver.

The radiation pattern of the 28-mm diaphragm is, as expected, somewhat more beam-focused than that of the more compact 26HD3 — which results in more precise directivity at high frequencies. This is an advantage for DIY projects where a defined radiation characteristic and a clearly focused sweet spot are desired. Energy output at off-axis angles remains consistent across the entire frequency range — no peaks, no dips.

The complete absence of resonance-induced peaks in the upper frequency range is a direct result of the double-sided ceramic coating on the magnesium diaphragm — manufactured at the ETON factory in Germany. A hard dome driver that unites analytical precision and long-term stability without compromise.

Deepest resonance in the HD assortment

The impedance curve of the 29HD2 highlights the defining unique selling point of this hard dome driver: With a resonant frequency of approximately 590 Hz, the impedance peak sits significantly lower than in the more compact ETON 26HD3 (810 Hz) – and thus also lower than most comparable hard dome drivers on the market. This creates a comfortable safety margin relative to the crossover frequency, and thanks to the effective ceramic coating, allows for manufacturer approval for use starting at 2 kHz – with a correspondingly steep filter.

Above the resonant frequency, the driver behaves almost purely resistively thanks to its extremely low voice coil inductance (Le = 0.02 mH) – the rise in impedance at high frequencies is minimal. For crossover designers, this means a forgiving, predictable load: simpler filter design, fewer phase errors, and greater flexibility in component selection.

The smooth impedance curve, free of secondary resonances or dips in the operating frequency range, attests to the manufacturing precision of the drive system and the quality of the ceramic coating. This hard dome driver performs identically in simulation and real-world use – reproducible, reliable, Made in Germany.
