Wide radiation pattern in the midrange – usable from 40 Hz to 2.5 kHz

The frequency response of the Arcosia 7 features a smooth, controlled amplitude curve from approx. 40 Hz to 2.5 kHz – with 89 dB efficiency and a stable level profile across the entire operating range. Compared to the Arcosia 7 Phase Plug, the classic version with a dust cap has a slightly wider radiation pattern in the upper midrange: Energy is radiated more evenly into the listening space, creating a more expansive sweet spot and more uniform sound distribution throughout the listening area.

Particularly relevant for DIY speaker builders: The usable operating range up to approx. 2.5 kHz allows direct pairing with tweeters with crossover frequencies starting at 2 kHz – perfect for demanding 2-way speaker designs. In 3-way systems, the Arcosia 7 handles the midrange from approx. 200–300 Hz and passes the low-frequency signals to a dedicated subwoofer or woofer. The typical 7" cone assembly activates above approx. 2 kHz – so the crossover frequency should not be selected significantly higher.

The flat, consistent frequency response with no dips or peaks across its operating range confirms the quality of the drive unit and suspension. A driver that sounds exactly as it measures – crafted at the ETON factory in Germany.

Qts 0.32 – precisely calculable for bass reflex and closed enclosures

The impedance curve of the Arcosia 7 shows the behavior of a carefully tuned 7" midwoofer: The impedance peak occurs at the resonant frequency of approximately 35 Hz (TSP) – exceptionally low for a driver of this size class. The Qts value of 0.32 clearly places the Arcosia 7 in the bass reflex tuning range, but it is also suitable for sealed enclosures with the corresponding volume. Compared to the Arcosia 7 Phase Plug (Qts 0.31, fs 36 Hz), the differences are minimal – both drivers can be designed using the same basic principles.

Above resonance, the driver behaves electrically stably: Impedance rises moderately toward high frequencies due to the voice coil inductance (Le = 0.87 mH) – a value expected and easily manageable for a midwoofer with a 32-mm voice coil. The 8-ohm design allows trouble-free operation with standard HiFi and multi-channel amplifiers, in both passive and active setups.

The cleanly defined impedance peak without side resonances confirms the mechanical precision of the overhung drive system and the quality of the suspension. A driver that behaves exactly the same in enclosure calculations as it does in simulations – reproducible, reliable, Made in Germany.
