Neutral midrange thanks to paper RP diaphragm – usable from 65 Hz to 3 kHz

The frequency response of the Orchestra 4-612 showcases the performance of a 4" mid-bass driver engineered for maximum system flexibility and a neutral, harmonically warm sound profile: a smooth, controlled amplitude curve from approximately 65 Hz to 3 kHz – with 88 dB efficiency and a stable level response across the entire operating range. The ribbed paper cone (RP) suppresses parasitic vibrations in the upper operating range and stabilizes overshoot behavior – the result is a uniform frequency response free of the typical peaks that many 4" drivers with stiffer cone materials exhibit in the upper midrange. Compared to the larger Orchestra drivers (8-612, 12-612), the operating range of the 4-612 sits significantly higher – it is not a woofer, but a mid-bass driver with a wide usable operating range.

Particularly relevant for DIY speaker builders: The 65 Hz to 3 kHz usable operating range makes the Orchestra 4-612 the most versatile driver in the Orchestra product lineup.

In 2-Wege-System It handles the entire low and midrange up to approximately 2.5–3 kHz and is paired directly with a tweeter – the compact Vas of 4.2 dm³ allows for enclosures ranging from approximately 3–6 liters.

In 3-Wege-System It operates as a dedicated midrange driver between a woofer (crossover point at approximately 200–400 Hz) and a tweeter (crossover point at 2.5–3 kHz). The Orchestra 4-612 is also an excellent choice for nearfield monitor projects.

The uniform frequency response with no dips or peaks across the operating range confirms the quality of the paper RP cone and drive system (BL = 6.1 Tm, 1.15 T). A 4" driver that sounds exactly as it measures – neutral, warm, highly versatile. Made in Germany, from the ETON factory.

Qts 0.32 / fs 68 Hz / Vas 4.2 dm³ – flexible for bass reflex and closed enclosures

The impedance curve of the Orchestra 4-612 demonstrates the performance of a 4-inch mid-bass driver with an exceptionally small equivalent volume: The impedance peak sits at approximately 68 Hz (TSP) – significantly higher than the larger Orchestra drivers (8-612: 26 Hz, 12-612: 30 Hz). The Qts value of 0.32 falls within the boundary range between bass reflex and sealed enclosure tuning, thereby offering maximum flexibility in enclosure design. The equivalent volume of just 4.2 dm³ is the most compact in the entire Orchestra product range, enabling exceptionally small enclosures: A sealed enclosure starting at approximately 2–4 liters delivers controlled, impulse-true reproduction; in a bass reflex enclosure starting at approximately 3–6 liters, the driver achieves its full low-end response.

Above the resonant frequency, the driver operates with electrical stability: Impedance only rises moderately toward high frequencies due to the voice coil inductance (Le = 0.36 mH) – a low value that simplifies crossover design and ensures a stable, predictable load across all standard amplifiers. The 8-ohm design enables effortless drive. The usable frequency range up to approximately 3 kHz makes the Orchestra 4-612 the most versatile driver in the Orchestra product line – as a mid-bass driver in 2-way systems or as a midrange driver in 3-way systems.

The sharply defined impedance peak with no secondary resonances confirms the mechanical precision of the overhung drive system and the quality of the suspension. This 4-inch driver behaves identically in enclosure calculations as it does in simulations – reproducible, reliable, Made in Germany.
