Phase Plug / CCAW / Xmax ±5.5 mm – 89 dB, usable from 34 Hz to 2.5 kHz

The frequency response of the Orchestra 7-512 demonstrates the performance of a 7"-mid-bass driver with phase plug, CCAW voice coil, and the highest electrical Xmax in the ETON Orchestra product lineup: a smooth, controlled amplitude curve from approximately 34 Hz to 2.5 kHz – with 89 dB efficiency and a stable level response across the entire operating range. The phase plug optimizes radiation behavior in the upper midrange and enables cleaner integration into 2-way systems with crossover frequencies up to 2.5 kHz. The CCAW voice coil with just 13.5 g of moving mass provides fast transient response – the frequency response shows no sluggish peaks in the operating range that would indicate excessively high moving mass. The ribbed paper cone (RP) additionally controls parasitic vibrations and stabilizes decay behavior even at high excursions up to ±5.5 mm electrical Xmax.

Of particular relevance to DIY loudspeaker developers: The usable operating range of 34 Hz to 2.5 kHz makes the Orchestra 7-512 the ideal driver for 2-Wege-Systeme with a crossover around 2–2.5 kHz – paired directly with a tweeter, using bass reflex enclosures from approximately 25–50 liters.

In a 3-Wege-System configuration it operates as a mid-bass driver between a woofer (crossover starting around 100–200 Hz) and a tweeter (crossover at 2–2.5 kHz). The Qts of 0.35 delivers a gentler level drop below the resonant frequency than a pure bass reflex driver – enclosure design is flexible and predictable.

The flat frequency response with no dips or peaks across the operating range confirms the quality of the RP paper cone, phase plug, and CCAW voice coil (BL = 7.2 Tm, Le = 0.60 mH). A 7"-driver with phase plug and CCAW that sounds as good as it measures – agile, precise, and consistent level response. Made in Germany, from the ETON factory.

Qts 0.35 / fs 39 Hz / Xmax ±5.5 mm – Phase Plug, CCAW coil, highest linear throw in the product range

The impedance curve of the Orchestra 7-512 demonstrates the performance of a 7-inch mid-bass driver with phase plug, CCAW voice coil, and the highest electrical Xmax in the entire ETON Orchestra product line: The impedance peak sits at approximately 39 Hz (TSP). The Qts value of 0.35 offers greater enclosure flexibility than a standard bass reflex driver with a Qts of 0.30 – bass reflex enclosures from approximately 25–50 liters tuned to 32–42 Hz are possible. The equivalent volume of 37.3 dm³ is the largest in the Orchestra mid-bass product line. The electrical Xmax of ±5.5 mm – the highest in the entire Orchestra product line – confirms that the 7-512 is designed for maximum sound pressure levels and low-distortion bass reproduction even at large cone excursions.

The CCAW voice coil (Copper Clad Aluminum Wire) is the second exclusive feature of the Orchestra 7-512 – it is the only driver in the Orchestra product line with this technology. CCAW combines the electrical conductivity of copper with the low density of aluminum: The result is a moving mass of just 13.5 g – significantly lighter than the copper voice coil of the Orchestra 7-612 (17.3 g). The lower moving mass enables faster transient response and more agile, transient-accurate bass reproduction. The low voice coil inductance (Le = 0.60 mH) further simplifies crossover design and ensures a stable load across all amplifiers.

The cleanly defined impedance peak without secondary resonances confirms the mechanical precision of the overhung drive system and the quality of the suspension. This 7-inch driver with phase plug and CCAW voice coil performs identically in enclosure calculations as it does in simulations – reproducible, reliable, Made in Germany.
