88 dB / Hexacone diaphragm / fs 69 Hz – usable from 69 Hz to 3 kHz, 50 W

The frequency response of the Symphony II 4-212 demonstrates the behavior of a top-class 4" midbass driver with a patented Hexacone cone in a multilayer construction: a uniform, controlled amplitude response from approx. 69 Hz to 3 kHz – with 88 dB efficiency and a stable level structure across the entire transmission range. The Hexacone cone is the decisive factor for this linear frequency response: the honeycomb structure adopted from aerospace technology, with its multilayer construction, remains electrically dimensionally stable even at high excursions up to Xmax ±2.0 mm – without the partial oscillations and peaks in the upper transmission range that occur with conventional cones at high levels. The result is a frequency response that is just as linear at 50 W as it is at 1 W.

Particularly relevant for DIY loudspeaker developers and loudspeaker manufacturers: the usable transmission range of approx. 69 Hz to 3 kHz makes the Symphony II 4-212 a versatile midbass driver for 2-Wege-Systeme with a crossover frequency around 2–3 kHz – directly coupled to a tweeter, with bass-reflex enclosures from approx. 3–8 liters.

In the 3-Wege-System it operates as a midbass driver between a woofer (crossover from approx. 200–400 Hz) and a tweeter (crossover at 2–3 kHz). The Qts of 0.39 and the equivalent volume of 3.6 dm³ are the decisive parameters here: the Symphony II 4-212 is one of the few 4" drivers in the Symphony II range that is suitable for both bass-reflex and sealed enclosures – maximum flexibility in enclosure design.

The uniform frequency response without dips or peaks in the transmission range demonstrates the superior quality of the Hexacone cone and the drive system (BL = 5.8 Tm, ferrite 1.15 T, Le = 0.40 mH). A 4" midbass driver with a Hexacone cone that sounds the way it measures – precise, linear, with genuine aerospace technology inside. Made in Germany, from the ETON manufactory.

Qts 0.39 / fs 69 Hz / BL 5.8 Tm – Hexacone membrane, 50 W, flexible for BR and sealed

The impedance curve of the Symphony II 4-212 shows the behavior of a top-class 4" midwoofer driver with patented multi-layer Hexacone membrane: The impedance maximum is at approx. 69 Hz (TSP) – the tuning basis for use as a midwoofer driver in compact 2-way and 3-way systems. The Qts value of 0.39 makes the Symphony II 4-212 one of the most flexible drivers in the Symphony II range: It is suitable for both bass reflex enclosures and sealed enclosures from approx. 3–8 liters – depending on the desired tuning characteristics. The force factor BL = 5.8 Tm with a moving mass of only 6.2 g ensures precise, agile drive across the entire transmission range from 69 Hz to approx. 3 kHz.

The multi-layer Hexacone membrane is the acoustic heart of the Symphony II 4-212: The honeycomb structure adopted from aerospace technology provides exceptional bending stiffness combined with low mass. The impedance behavior reflects this quality: The smooth impedance curve without secondary resonances demonstrates the mechanical precision of the overhung drive system and the dimensional stability of the Hexacone membrane even at high excursions up to Xmax ±2.0 mm electrical / ±5.5 mm mechanical. The ferrite magnet with 1.15 T and the 25-mm copper voice coil on Kapton former (Le = 0.40 mH) ensure a stable, predictable load – simple crossover design without elaborate impedance correction.

Above resonance, the driver behaves electrically stable: The moderate impedance rise due to Le = 0.40 mH is an expected value for a 4" midwoofer driver with a 25-mm voice coil and does not complicate crossover design. The 8-ohm design allows easy driving with common hi-fi amplifiers. A 4" midwoofer driver with Hexacone membrane that behaves in enclosure calculation exactly as it does in simulation – flexible, predictable, Made in Germany.
