The result is a frequency response that is just as linear at 50 W as it is at 1 W.

Particularly relevant for the DIY loudspeaker developer and the loudspeaker manufacturer: the usable transmission range of approx. 53 Hz to 2–3 kHz makes the Symphony II 5-212 a versatile midwoofer driver for 2-Wege-Systeme – crossover frequency to the tweeter at approx. 2–3 kHz, bass-reflex enclosures from approx. 10–20 liters with tuning around 40–50 Hz for bass extension down to below 40 Hz.

In the 3-Wege-System the Symphony II 5-212 handles the bass and lower midrange between approx. 53 Hz and 500 Hz–1 kHz – for precise, level-stable bass reproduction with true bass extension. The equivalent volume of 8.5 dm³ and the Qts of 0.43 are the decisive parameters for enclosure design: the Symphony II 5-212 operates optimally in bass-reflex enclosures from approx. 10–20 liters – compact for a 5" format with true bass extension.

The uniform frequency response without dips or peaks in the transmission range confirms the superior quality of the Hexacone cone and the drive system (BL = 5.8 Tm, ferrite 1.15 T, Le = 0.46 mH, Sd = 80 cm²). The force factor BL = 5.8 Tm with an effective radiating area of Sd = 80 cm² and a moving mass of 9.6 g ensures controlled, precise drive across the entire frequency range from 53 Hz to approx. 2–3 kHz – even at 50 W power handling (IEC 60268-5) and low frequencies below 50 Hz.

The multi-layer Hexacone membrane is the acoustic heart of the Symphony II 5-212: The honeycomb structure adopted from aerospace technology provides exceptional bending stiffness combined with low mass – crucial for a linear frequency response even at the high excursions that occur with 5" drivers in the bass range below 50 Hz. The impedance behavior reflects this quality: The cleanly defined impedance maximum without secondary resonances demonstrates the mechanical precision of the overhang drive system. The mechanical Xmax of ±7.5 mm offers a generous safety margin – the driver operates in a controlled, low-distortion manner at 50 W, even at low frequencies. The 25-mm copper voice coil on a Kapton former (Le = 0.46 mH, 1.15 T) ensures thermal stability during long-term operation.

The 8-ohm design allows easy driving with common hi-fi amplifiers. The moderate impedance rise due to Le = 0.46 mH is an expected value for a 5" midbass driver with a 25-mm voice coil and does not complicate crossover design. A 5" midbass driver with Hexacone membrane that behaves in enclosure calculation exactly as it does in simulation – precise, predictable, Made in Germany.
