88 dB / Hexacone diaphragm + phase plug / fs 54 Hz – usable from 54 Hz to 2–3 kHz, 50 W

The frequency response of the Symphony II 5-312 shows the behavior of a top-class 5" midwoofer driver with patented Hexacone membrane in multilayer construction and phase plug: a uniform, controlled amplitude response from approx. 54 Hz to 2–3 kHz – with 88 dB efficiency and a stable level structure across the entire transmission range. The Hexacone membrane ensures a linear frequency response even at the high excursions that physically occur with 5" drivers in the bass range below 50 Hz – without partial oscillations and peaks under load. The result is a frequency response that is just as linear at 50 W as it is at 1 W.

The open-design phase plug is the decisive factor for the controlled frequency response in the upper transmission range: it ensures uniform sound radiation across the entire membrane surface and low-beaming radiation behavior up to approx. 2–3 kHz – the basis for phase-optimized, seamless integration with the tweeter. For the DIY developer and loudspeaker manufacturer, this means: the crossover frequency to the tweeter can be selected at approx. 2–3 kHz – in an acoustically uncritical range with controlled radiation behavior from both drivers. Bass reflex enclosures from approx. 10–20 liters with tuning around 40–50 Hz enable extension down to below 40 Hz in the compact 5" format.

The uniform frequency response without dips or peaks in the transmission range demonstrates the superior quality of the Hexacone membrane and the drive system (BL = 5.7 Tm, ferrite 1.15 T, Le = 0.45 mH, Sd = 80 cm²). A 5" midwoofer driver with Hexacone membrane and phase plug that sounds the way it measures – deep, linear, with controlled radiation behavior up to the crossover frequency. Made in Germany, from the ETON manufactory.

Qts 0.44 / fs 54 Hz / BL 5.7 Tm – Hexacone membrane + phase plug, 50 W, bass reflex from 10–20 L

The impedance curve of the Symphony II 5-312 shows the behavior of a top-class 5" midwoofer driver with patented Hexacone cone in multilayer construction and phase plug: The impedance maximum is at approx. 54 Hz (TSP) – the tuning basis for genuine deep bass down to below 40 Hz in a bass reflex enclosure. The Qts value of 0.44 and the equivalent volume of 8.4 dm³ position the driver for bass reflex enclosures from approx. 10–20 liters with reflex port tuning around 40–50 Hz. The force factor BL = 5.7 Tm with an effective radiating area of Sd = 80 cm² and a moving mass of 9.4 g ensures controlled, precise drive across the entire frequency range up to approx. 2–3 kHz – even at 50 W power handling (IEC 60268-5) and low frequencies below 50 Hz.

The open-design phase plug is the acoustic distinguishing feature of the Symphony II 5-312: It actively optimizes the radiation behavior in the upper frequency range, ensures uniform sound radiation across the entire cone surface, and enables crossover frequencies up to approx. 2–3 kHz with controlled, low-dispersion radiation behavior. The improved air circulation in the pole piece area reduces thermal compression during long-term operation – the driver sounds the same at 50 W as it does at 10 W. The Hexacone cone remains dimensionally stable even at the high excursions that occur with 5" drivers in the bass range below 50 Hz – the cleanly defined impedance maximum without secondary resonances demonstrates this mechanical precision. The mechanical Xmax of ±7.5 mm provides a generous safety margin.

The 8-ohm design allows easy driving with common hi-fi amplifiers. The moderate impedance rise due to Le = 0.45 mH is an expected value for a 5" midwoofer driver with a 25-mm voice coil and does not complicate crossover design. A 5" midwoofer driver with Hexacone cone and phase plug that behaves in enclosure calculation exactly as it does in simulation – precise, predictable, Made in Germany.
