The frequency response of the Symphony II 8-212 shows the behavior of the most powerful bass driver in the Symphony II line with patented Hexacone diaphragm in multilayer construction: a uniform, controlled amplitude response from approx. 28 Hz to approx. 500 Hz – with 91 dB efficiency, the highest value of the entire Symphony II line, and a stable level structure across the entire transmission range. The Hexacone diaphragm with an effective radiating area of Sd = 222 cm² ensures a linear frequency response even at extreme excursions up to Xmax ±14.2 mm mechanical, which an 8" bass driver physically produces at low frequencies below 30 Hz and 120 W – without partial oscillations and peaks under load. The result is a frequency response that is just as linear at 120 W as it is at 1 W.

Particularly relevant for the DIY loudspeaker developer and the loudspeaker manufacturer: The usable transmission range of approx. 28 Hz to approx. 500 Hz makes the Symphony II 8-212 a pure bass driver for 3-Wege-Systeme – crossover to the midrange driver at approx. 200–500 Hz, in bass reflex enclosures from approx. 60–120 liters with tuning around 20–28 Hz for extension down into the infrasonic range below 20 Hz.

In the 2-Wege-System with a broadband midrange-tweeter, a crossover at approx. 300–500 Hz is possible – the Symphony II 8-212 handles the entire bass range down to 28 Hz (TSP). The equivalent volume of 80.0 dm³ and the Qts of 0.31 are the decisive parameters: optimal bass reflex tuning for maximum low-frequency extension in the chosen enclosure volume.

The uniform frequency response without dips or peaks in the transmission range demonstrates the superior quality of the Hexacone diaphragm and the drive system (BL = 9.0 Tm, ferrite 1.00 T, Le = 0.78 mH, Sd = 222 cm²). The Qts value of 0.31 and the equivalent volume of 80.0 dm³ position the driver for bass-reflex enclosures from approx. 60–120 liters with tuning around 20–28 Hz. The force factor BL = 9.0 Tm is the highest value of the entire Symphony II line: with an effective radiating area of Sd = 222 cm² and a moving mass of 30.7 g, this means powerful, precise drive even at 120 W power handling (IEC 60268-5) and excursions up to Xmax ±4.0 mm electrical.

The multi-layer Hexacone diaphragm is the acoustic heart of the Symphony II 8-212: The honeycomb structure adopted from aerospace engineering ensures exceptional bending stiffness – crucial for an 8" bass driver that is subjected to extreme mechanical stress at low frequencies below 30 Hz and 120 W. The cleanly defined impedance peak without secondary resonances demonstrates the mechanical precision of the overhung drive system and the dimensional stability of the Hexacone diaphragm even at maximum excursion up to Xmax ±14.2 mm mechanical – one of the largest safety margins in its class. The 37-mm copper voice coil on a Kapton former (Le = 0.78 mH, 1.00 T) ensures thermal stability during long-term operation at 120 W.

The 8-ohm design allows easy operation with common hi-fi amplifiers. The moderate impedance rise due to Le = 0.78 mH lies well above the typical crossover frequency of 200–500 Hz and does not complicate crossover design. With 91 dB efficiency, the Symphony II 8-212 is the most efficient driver in the Symphony II line – maximum bass dynamics with minimal amplifier effort.
