The frequency response of the Symphony II 8-412 shows the behavior of the long-throw woofer of the Symphony II line with patented Hexacone cone in multilayer construction: a uniform, controlled amplitude curve from approx. 28 Hz to approx. 300 Hz – with 89 dB efficiency and a stable level structure across the entire transmission range. The decisive difference compared to the 8-212: the electrical Xmax of ±5.5 mm is the highest linear excursion value of the entire Symphony II line – the frequency response remains linear and low-distortion even at the levels at which conventional 8" drivers reach their distortion limits. The Hexacone cone with Sd = 222 cm² and the CCAW voice coil (copper-aluminum composite) together ensure a frequency response that is just as linear at 80 W as it is at 1 W.

Particularly relevant for the DIY loudspeaker developer and the loudspeaker manufacturer: the usable transmission range from approx. 28 Hz to approx. 300 Hz makes the Symphony II 8-412 a pure bass and subwoofer driver for 3-Wege-Systeme – crossover to the midrange driver at approx. 100–300 Hz, in bass-reflex enclosures from approx. 80–150 liters with tuning around 20–28 Hz for deep bass extension down to below 20 Hz. The higher Qts of 0.40 compared to the 8-212 (Qts 0.31) and the Vas of 101.0 dm³ – the largest of the Symphony II line – make the 8-412 the choice for projects where maximum linear excursion and level stability at low frequencies are more important than compact enclosure volume. The mechanical Xmax of ±14.2 mm offers an enormous safety margin even under subwoofer-like operating conditions below 25 Hz.

The uniform frequency response without dips or peaks in the transmission range demonstrates the superior quality of the Hexacone cone and the drive system (BL = 8.0 Tm, ferrite 1.00 T, Le = 0.72 mH, Sd = 222 cm²). The Qts value of 0.40 and the equivalent volume of 101.0 dm³ – the largest Vas of the Symphony II line – position the driver for bass reflex enclosures from approx. 80–150 liters with tuning around 20–28 Hz. The force factor BL = 8.0 Tm with an effective radiating area of Sd = 222 cm² and a moving mass of 29.6 g ensures controlled, precise drive even at extreme excursions up to mechanical Xmax ±14.2 mm at 80 W power handling (IEC 60268-5).

The multi-layer Hexacone diaphragm and the CCAW voice coil (copper-aluminum composite, 32 mm) are the key acoustic technologies of the Symphony II 8-412: The Hexacone diaphragm provides exceptional bending stiffness – even at extreme excursions up to electrical Xmax ±4.2 mm it remains dimensionally stable, without partial oscillations and distortion under load. The CCAW voice coil is lighter than a comparable copper coil and reduces the moving mass – the result is an agile, transient-accurate drive despite the large excursion. The cleanly defined impedance maximum without secondary resonances confirms the mechanical precision of the overhang drive system. Le = 0.72 mH ensures a stable, predictable load in long-term operation.

The 8-ohm design allows easy driving with common HiFi amplifiers and subwoofer power amps. The impedance rise due to Le = 0.72 mH lies well above the typical crossover frequency of 100–300 Hz and does not complicate crossover design. An 8" long-throw woofer with Hexacone diaphragm and CCAW voice coil that behaves in enclosure calculation exactly as it does in simulation – precise, predictable, Made in Germany.
